Table Mountain Hike
It's a couple mile hike with 2300' elevation gain. Steep, but mostly safe, unless one goes barreling up at full speed. One of us slipped on a rock and knocked her shin and bruised her finger, thinking she may have broken it. Ouch.
The other one of us was fine, just a little out of breath, dreaming of coffee.
We met a local guy who runs/hikes up a few mornings a week. He just zips up there before work and takes the cable car back down. Nice workout with beautiful views -- it sure beats staring at a wall at the gym. His season pass for the gondola was only R500, so for any of you locals reading this (Sam)... Beth got up there in 60 min, about the same as that hike in Avon!
After a very nice breakfast of Shakshouka we walked to a shop called Unknown Union, where Beth fell in love with the hip African fashions. We had heard of a designer called Oscar Chavez, so I dropped his name at exactly the right moment; then when he walked in it got even more fun. Now I'm buds with an African fashion designer from Covina. Turns out he's a model and has about 18 other things going on. Discovering unexpected connections can be fun.
